エレファント・ウォークとは

エレファント・ウォークとは、多数の航空機が滑走路でタキシング（地上滑走）し、多数の航空機を同時に運用する能力や多数の航空機を短時間で離陸させる即応態勢を確認する訓練のひとつです。

象が群れで歩く様子に似ていることからエレファント・ウォークと呼ばれているようです。

エレファント・ウォークの大きな行動は、次の2つです。

多数の航空機が、滑走路上をまさに象の群れのように整然と移動すること
多数の航空機が、次々と滑走、離陸すること

なお、エレファント・ウォークに使用する機体や順番は任意のようです。

エレファント・ウォークにより得られる成果

エレファント・ウォークでは、複数の飛行隊から同時に航空機を発進させることで、様々な課題が浮かび上がります。

各飛行隊は、パイロットや指揮管制チームに加え、メンテナンスの専門家の能力を評価することができます。

F-35AライトニングIIとは

F-35AライトニングIIは、米国空軍の最新の第5世代戦闘機で、米国空軍仕様のF-35Aの他、艦載機として運用できるF-35C、垂直離着陸可能なステルス機F-35Bがあります。

優れた空力性能と統合されたアビオニクスを備える次世代のステルス機であり、米国空軍だけでなく日本を含む同盟国にも提供されます。

2018年11月19日のエレファント・ウォーク（演習名はcombat power exercise）では、次のような訓練でした。

35機のF-35AライトニングIIを使用
ほぼ1日30回～60回の出撃
離陸間隔は、20秒～40秒間隔
